When I read this, it makes me realise that journalism in small markets is going to make a case for itself and require robust philanthropy or business support because the base for subscribers is quite small. Democracy needs journalism.
I’m glad this edition was insightful. This one took me a little while to research and write; most of it due to self-doubt about whether I had fully captured what hasn’t been covered in the media press. I had to cut out a lot of stuff that, in the end, didn’t quite fit in. I might even expand on some of these issues I touched on in this edition.
N2 and its project “The Local” is the only systemic solution that address news deserts, production of original journalism down to the hyperlocal level, is sustainable and has proven to work.
